Here's what Eastern India's debut art auction, Eye Within Art, will mean to the art fraternity

Eastern India gets its first online art auction, and the launch brings good news for collectors, artists and art enthusiasts not just in Kolkata and Bengal but the entire Eastern region. Conceptualised by Eye Within Art, a city-based art house that has been at the forefront of promoting art through exhibitions and art camps within India and abroad since 1995, the first auction will take place between July 16-18 on their website. Goutam Das, founder and director of Eye Within Art, believes the online auction, based out of Kolkata, will benefit artists of the region and will be at par with renowned India-based auction houses like Saffron Art and AstaGuru. Das talked about how Bengal was the hub for artists and how, with the rise of galleries and opportunities in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, artists from Bengal started shifting to those cities. Das strongly believes Eye Within Art is a milestone in the Indian art scene and will not just reverse this migration of the artists from Bengal to other states but will also fetch more value to their artworks. "A lot of artists, with a strong connection in Bengal, move to Delhi and Mumbai, which has given them more exposure. For example, artists like Paresh Maity, Jayasree Burman, Manu Parekh and others. With Eye Within Art, which has three decades of experience in the industry and is well connected with artists, we intend to be on par with top auction houses in India and give artists from the region a robust platform.
